To improve our understanding of our customers\u2019 requirements, Elistair’s R&D team recently flew the Orion<\/span> 2<\/span> persistent<\/span> drone<\/span><\/a> continuously for 50 hours.<\/p>\n The purpose of this flight test was to further investigate the Orion 2’s endurance with a view to continuously improve its capabilities. On this occasion our team took turns onboard our customised operations truck, operating in a field near Lyon (France) for 2 days and 2 nights.<\/p>\n The truck, equipped with its two control screens, allowed for the simultaneous piloting and monitoring of the drone from a comfortable position on the ground, sheltered from the cold night air.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_video src=”https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xpCBbtJS4gQ” _builder_version=”4.21.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_video][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.21.0″ _module_preset=”default” text_text_color=”#1E1E1E” text_font_size=”18px” text_line_height=”1.8em” header_2_font=”GT America Extended Regular||||||||” header_2_text_color=”#000000″ header_2_font_size=”34px” header_2_line_height=”1.2em” header_3_font=”GT America Extended Medium||||||||” header_3_text_color=”#000000″ header_2_font_size_tablet=”34px” header_2_font_size_phone=”26px” header_2_font_size_last_edited=”on|phone” inline_fonts=”GT America Extended Regular,GT America Extended Medium” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n With the recent advancements made in both hardware and autonomous software functions, the Orion<\/span> 2<\/span><\/a> persistent tethered drone easily endured the 50 hours of flight without requiring a landing.<\/p>\n The designs, hardware, and electronic components of the Orion and its companion Safe-T<\/span> 2<\/span> tethering<\/span> d'Elistair<\/span><\/a> guarantee a continuous flight capacity for the UAV and a permanent power supply to the chosen payload. Therefore, it requires high levels of operational efficiency to respond to security needs.<\/p> It is in this context that the Nestor project, headed by Horizon 2000 and the Hellenic police<\/a>, seeks to demonstrate a new generation of functional systems. Nestor allows for increased vigilance over widespread areas. The project is based on several objectives, including detection, reconnaissance, classification, and the tracking of moving targets.<\/strong><\/p> Backed by a willingness to integrate innovative technologies, these objectives have defined the ultimate shape of the project by creating a functional and autonomous platform for surveillance and coordination which can be remotely controlled to facilitate the tracking of moving targets. The involved technologies form an integrated and embedded network for land and maritime missions.<\/strong><\/p>[caption id=\"attachment_23163\" align=\"alignnone\" width=\"511\"] \u00a0<\/p>[caption id=\"attachment_22844\" align=\"alignnone\" width=\"511\"] Elistair<\/a> is now part of this consortium. It is mostly composed of industrial partners, end-users, and public research groups such as MILTECH, HEN, and DCD amongst others. The Orion 2 UAV<\/a> will provide continuous aerial surveillance within the larger network of cooperating technologies and systems.<\/p> \u00a0<\/strong>The Nestor project is an answer to one of the directives of European authorities regarding the priority of border security.
