November 30th, fans of French singer Orelsan enjoyed his music with better safety and security using new drone technology. A DJI M200 UAV, connected to Elistair’s Ligh-T tethering station, was deployed to assist the police near the concert hall.

Power from the ground, the drone flew for several hours to keep the area around the arena safe.

The tethering station: an innovation that pushes the limits of UAV technology

To ensure the safety of the organizing teams, fans and artists, the UAV service company Adéole and the city of Floirac decided to use a new form of video monitoring of the public areas: a DJI Matrix 200 UAV, with Zenmuse Z30 full HD camera, connected to Elistair’s Ligh-T tethering station, was used to enhance security for events on this scale.

The UAV, connected to its ground station by a micro-tether, flew over the area before, during, and after the concert without needing to change batteries. Security teams monitored entrances, exits, roads, and the movement of people and vehicles safely and effectively, providing security teams with a continuous view of the whole perimeter.

Alexandre Auger, CEO of Adéole stated :

“The objective of this mission was to monitor traffic conditions before and after  Orelsan’s concert. We flew during 2 hours 45 minutes before the concert and during 1 hour after with Elistair’s system. This innovation allowed us to significantly increase our flight  time. During our previous missions, we did not have this system, and the pressure related to limited battery life was significant. For this operation, we positioned ourselves between the concert hall and the car park and flew the drone up to 50 m, closely monitoring nearby traffic routes and crowd movements to improve event safety.”

The control room displayed the video surveillance images directly. This helped the police officers understand the situation well and contributed to overall event safety. They could then take quick and appropriate actions.

“Our objective was to assist the municipal police in relieving traffic congestion. The use of this tethered drone was a great asset for police officers and helped to reduce traffic congestion by 45 minutes. It also contributed to event safety and helped us find a person wanted for public drunkenness,” adds Alexandre Auger.

Why Elistair’s tethering station?

Elistair designed the Ligh-T station to support law enforcement and safety operations, and security for events. Easy to transport and deploy, it extends drones autonomy to several hours, even in challenging weather.

You can set it up in under 5 minutes. It provides continuous power for unlimited flight time. The T-monitor smart application allows for monitoring of all tethered drone flights. The tether not only provides power but also lets you transfer data securely.

The designers built the Ligh-T station for tough conditions. It can be operated day or night and provides safe, extended flight durations. Perfectly adapted, among other applications, to deployments in urban areas close to infrastructure and the public, this system gives operators peace of mind in challenging environments.

Elistair tethering systems, including the autonomous Orion UAS, have already successfully provided surveillance for major international events in 2018. These events include the Bol d’Or, a 24-hour motorcycle championship with 70,000 spectators. The Ryder Cup has 300,000 participants. The Paris Peace Forum features 70 heads of state, all monitored efficiently with tethered drone technology, offering organizers and security teams peace of mind.
